1. Why Medical Cost Sharing?
A medical cost sharing community is a group of like-minded individuals that agree to come together and help each other pay their medical expenses. Every member agrees to contribute monthly to sharing other member's medical expenses. When a medical expense arises, the member submits that need to the community to be shared.
With insurance, premiums are sent to the insurance company every month. Every time a member goes to the doctor, an additional co-pay is paid. This does not go towards to the member’s deductible. In addition, when a member needs labs or x-rays or has to be in the hospital, the member pays the cost until the deductible is met, and then only a portion of the bill is covered by the insurance. Some insurance plans also have a prescription deductible that must be paid before prescription coverage starts, and every prescription has a co-pay that does not go towards the yearly deductible. The entire populace that is insured by the company must pay for the bills of those who have not taken care of themselves.

3. Is Direct Primary Share just another insurance company?
No. Insurance arrangements are a contract whereby one party agrees to be legally responsible for and accept another party’s risk of loss in exchange for a payment—a premium. Medical cost sharing is an arrangement whereby Members agree to share one-another’s medical expenses through an act of voluntary giving. DPS is not licensed or registered by any insurance board or department since we are not practicing the business of insurance. We do not assess applicants’ health risks, because our Members are assuming financial liability for any other member’s risk. Unlike insurance, the focus of our medical cost sharing program is on how our Members help each another with their immediate needs.
